There are a couple of reasons to create and assign roles.

Floors and Rooms within Filo.co can be made private - either to limit visibility between Admins and non-admins, or to a segment of your Members for example. Some examples are - preselected breakout sessions, separate Floors or Rooms for companies and interviewees, companies who span across multiple regions and want to limit their view to only what applies to them, etc.

Another use for roles is to identify individuals or a segment of people by adding an emoji badge to the role when you create it. This is useful to identify award winners, students vs faculty, speaker or panelist vs general audience, VIP members, investors and founders, etc.

Example of roles with badging - users can hoover over the badges to see which role is aligned to that badge:

This is achieved by creating and assigning roles within Filo.co (only Admins can access this feature). If you are not sure if you should utilize the Roles feature, please just let us know and we would be happy to guide you!

To create Roles within Filo.co please follow these steps:

1. Login to your Filo.co Campus (if you have access to more than one, be sure you are in the correct campus.)

2. Click on the ellipsis in the upper left hand corner of your screen, then click on "Manage Roles":

3. Type the name of the role you wish to create in the bar. You can add an emoji as a badge to each role if you wish and click "Create Role":

Once you assign your roles to members within this view you will see the number of members with that role who have logged into Filo.

If you need to edit a role name or badge, simply click on the ellipsis next to the role to make your edits. Anyone with that role will be updated automatically.

To assign roles to individuals, you have the following options:

For large lists of people that are already uploaded to your campus:

  1. Export your current list of members and invitees from Filo by clicking on the "Member List Template" in the Member section from the Admin panel:

  2. Open the downloaded file on your computer

  3. Add Y for yes and N for no in the appropriate role(s) column(s)

  4. Save your file

  5. Upload the updated list into Filo (either click "Upload Member List" to search for your file, or drag and drop the file into that box)

For large lists of people that are not already uploaded to your campus:

  1. Export the template from Filo by clicking on the "Member List Template" in the Member section

  2. Open the downloaded file on your computer

  3. Add the email addresses to the Email column

  4. Add Y for yes and N for no in the appropriate role(s) column(s)

  5. Upload the updated list into Filo (either click "Upload Member List" to search for your file, or drag and drop the file into that box)

For one off role assignments to individuals who are already uploaded to your campus:

  • Search for the individual's email in either the Member or Invite section. Click on the ellipsis to the right of their email address. Check the box for the appropriate role(s). If the individual is already signed into Filo they will need to refresh their browser for the changes to take effect.
